Pokémon Hunt

The Pokémon Hunt Returns!
Join us for the third annual Pokémon Hunt in Midland, Penetanguishene, and the surrounding areas!
July 18 – August 1, 2026
What is the Pokémon Hunt?
The Pokémon Hunt is a community-wide scavenger hunt that encourages players of all ages to explore Midland, Penetanguishene, and the surrounding area while discovering local businesses and supporting our community.
Each participating business is home to a unique 3D-printed Pokémon hidden somewhere inside their store. Your goal is simple: explore local businesses, discover hidden Pokémon, collect stamps in your Passport, and earn ballots for some incredible prizes!
How to Play
Step 1 – Register
Visit Event Horizon Hobbies between July 18 and August 1 to register for the event.
You'll receive:
- Your Pokémon Hunt Passport
- Your choice of Easy Mode or Hard Mode
- Assistance creating a free Pokémon Trainer ID if you don't already have one (required to participate)
Step 2 – Choose Your Adventure
Easy Mode
Receive a complete list of every participating business.
Hard Mode
Receive only a collection of riddles. Solve each riddle to discover the participating business before you visit.
Step 3 – Find the Pokémon
Each participating business has one unique Pokémon hidden somewhere inside.
When you find it:
- Take a photo of the Pokémon.
- Show the photo to a staff member.
- Receive your Hunt Stamp.
If you make a purchase during your visit (minimum $5.00), you'll receive a second Purchase Stamp.
Step 4 – Complete Regions
The Hunt is divided into Regions.
Each Region contains 5 participating businesses.
Complete all five businesses within a Region to earn:
-
1 Hunt Ballot for finding all five Pokémon.
If you also collect the five Purchase Stamps within that same Region, you'll earn:
- 1 Bonus Purchase Ballot
This means every completed Region can earn you:
- 1 ballot for completing the Hunt
- 1 additional ballot for supporting local businesses
Complete more Regions to earn even more chances to win!
Step 5 – Return Your Passport
Bring your completed Passport back to Event Horizon Hobbies no later than Saturday, August 1 at 6:00 PM.
We'll review your completed Passport, verify the Regions you've completed, and provide the appropriate number of Hunt and Bonus Shop ballots. Simply fill out each ballot with your contact information and return them to us before the prize draw.
Prize Draws
Every completed Region earns entries into our prize draws. Prizes include Pokémon prize support generously provided by The Pokémon Company International and Event Horizon Hobbies, along with gift cards, merchandise, experiences, and other prizes donated by participating local businesses.
The more Regions you complete, the more chances you'll have to win!
House Rules
The Pokémon Hunt takes place inside privately owned businesses. Please help us make this a fun experience for everyone by following these simple rules:
- Be respectful to staff, customers, and other participants.
- Follow each business's posted hours and policies.
- Respect any areas marked as staff-only or off-limits.
- Do not touch, move, or remove the Pokémon statues.
- Photos are encouraged!
- Please do not share Pokémon locations or riddle answers online during the event.
- Remember that participation is a privilege. Unsportsmanlike behaviour may result in removal from the event and forfeiture of prize eligibility.
Thank you to every participating business for helping make this event possible!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a Pokémon Trainer ID?
Participation in the Pokémon Hunt requires each participant to have a free Pokémon Trainer ID. If you don't already have one, Event Horizon Hobbies will be happy to register you when you pick up your Poképort.
To create a Pokémon Trainer ID, we will need your first and last name and date of birth.
This information is required by Play! Pokémon to create your Trainer ID and is used only for registration purposes. There is no cost to register, and once your Trainer ID has been created, it can also be used to participate in official Play! Pokémon events, including Leagues, tournaments, and other sanctioned activities around the world.
Do I have to visit every business?
No. Every completed Region earns its own ballots. Complete as many or as few Regions as you'd like.
How many businesses are in each Region?
Five.
Can I switch modes later?
Absolutely. If you find Hard Mode too challenging, simply come back to Event Horizon Hobbies for the complete list of businesses.
Do I need to buy something?
No. Purchases are completely optional, but they earn you additional Purchase Stamps and bonus ballots when you spend more than $5.00 during your visit to a participating business.
Can I visit businesses more than once?
Absolutely, but each business may only stamp your Passport once for the Hunt and once for a qualifying purchase.
What if a business is closed?
Simply return during their regular business hours before the Hunt ends.
Can someone tell me where a Pokémon is hidden?
No. Half the fun is discovering them yourself.
Can children participate?
Absolutely! The Pokémon Hunt is designed to be family friendly. Children should be supervised by a parent or guardian while participating.
Is there a cost to participate?
Not at all. Participation is free thanks to the generosity of participating businesses.
What if I lose my Passport?
Please keep your Passport in a safe place throughout the Hunt. While a new Passport can be issued for any that are lost or damaged, replacement stamps will not be re-issued for any previously obtained, and you must start over.
Can friends or family share one Passport?
No. Each participant must register separately and have their own Passport.
Do purchases have to be a certain amount?
No. Any purchase qualifies.
Can I complete the Hunt over multiple days?
Absolutely! The Hunt is designed to be completed over the full two-week event. Visit businesses whenever it's convenient before August 1.
What happens if I finish early?
Return your Passport to Event Horizon Hobbies any time before the August 1 deadline to receive your prize ballots.
A huge thank you in advance to all participating businesses - they have all generously donated items for prizing!
